Brighter is better

I am welcoming Apples decision to include brighter screens across the line of its products. I would even love to see brighter screens on the iPod shuffle even though we all know thats not possible. The inclusion began over a year ago when Apple made increased the brightness of their professional MacBook Pro when they made the move to Intel. Since then, the iMac, iPod and iBook successor have benefited from this upgrade and no one is complaining.

The only item that has not had the honor of a brighter backlight is Apples extremely expensive LCD displays. The displays have not been updates in the calendar year of 2006 so I cant blame Apple but there are a few designers out there awaiting a built in webcam, HDMI and of course brighter displays before they shell out for new monitors. If you cant wait, Dell has very bright displays with some awesome features like composite video, card readers and priced 25 percent less than Apples displays at the same size and resolution. The word on the streets is that Apple uses the same LCD panels as Dell and the enclosure is the only different aspect. If an aluminum enclosure means a 100% price markup then Ill stick with Dell for my next monitor purchase.

I may have ventured off into a rant but back to brightness; I just purchased the newest 80Gb iPods in black and the screen is extremely bright compared to my 60Gb iPod w/ Video. I was told by the guy at CompUSA that this was not the case but when I ventured to the new iPods brightness settings and moved it from the default setting of 50%, he was wowed and I was reminded why Apple Stores are just that much better. Anyway, my MacBooks brightness kicks butt and the new iPods bright screen makes movie watching so much better.

Lets hope that Apple moves forward with those new displays but in the meantime you can hook your bright iPod up to a bright iMac and bask in the glowing aqua goodness.

So you agree that the display is bright enough and crisp enough for you? I was amazed when I saw the quality.
