Dead MacBook alert
Tonight, I installed some system updates and performed a restart of my MacBook. It came back up to an immediate kernel panic before even loading the OS. I received the same issue trying to boot to my Mac OS X Installation DVD to reinstall the OS / Run a hardware test. I swapped out the ram, unplugged all devices and attempted to narrow down the issue by booting into "single user mode" which didn't work either since the kernal panic was occouring well beyond that point. I called Apple (1800-275-2273 which I know by heart) and gave the gentlemen my act of troubleshooting and he said, "you performed the steps as an Apple employee would" and I replied back with, "I was an Apple employee and I've read the Apple repair manuals more than you." He laughed and set me up with a box to come out and send off my MacBook to the repair depot which I think the nearest one is in Tennessee.
Anyway, I'm machineless and writing this on my girlfriend's PowerBook G4 and luckily target disk mode works so moving my files to my hard drives is easy as cake. With 4.5gbs tranferred and 50gbs to go, at least I'll have my data when the repaired MacBook comes back to me. I'm guessing its the Logic Board aka motherboard to PC users. The logic board had a hiccup and didn't like the daylight savings time update from Apple and this was its way of giving me the finger.
No worries, at least I got the podcast up for this week before the issue occurred.

yea that apple care extension is looking like a good idea. now i dunno if i wanna do those updates either, you sure its hardware?
and i have noticed mac users say logic instead of mobo but i dunno why
was there a differance in the olden days between a pcs mobo and a macs logicboard?
a logicboard and motherboard = the same thing! it's just Mac users have more sence! ;p (haha)
Adam, since ur MacBook went down with the new update for DS from Apple, then shouldn't Apple know about this issue!! or... do you think ur logicboard, just gave up and gave you the finger, as you have been using it daily..! without a cool down.
I hope you will be back up in a few week's time with fixed/repaired or 'new' MacBook.. let's just hope it won't take a few... months to do!!
OUCH!
Well, my previous iBook was sent in repair 15 times over the course of three years. They finally agreed to replace it.
I love how Sam said that Mac users have more "sence" and spelled it wrong. LOL sorry sam had to point that out.
I think its my fault. I always install updates and when it tells me to restart I force quit software update and will keep using the computer for another 5 days without a restart.
Thanks Adam, yup I know spelled it wrong intentionaly ;p
I am now finding it a little slow on my pbook - so am now finally selling it and buying a MacBook Black at 999 in the UK.. can't think why I need a MacBook Pro... hmmm.
