Merging games and Computers
I remember back in the day. Game systems were not too complex. There were computers: which were used for work. Word processing, and other business related activities. Then there were the gaming consoles: which (as the name suggests) were used for games. Somewhere in there, a person thought to put a game on a work computer. Then, bam! We had games on our work systems. This pushed the computer industry forward. Just think, if we were just using word processors, and taxes, computers would have never moved forward. It was media, and games that pushed the computer industry forward. Look at all benchmarking for computers. One of the speed tests is Unreal Tournament, and how many frames can be achieved.

Going back to the old days of gaming, 1995 and back. I made a prediction. I did not have the resources to publish it as I do today, so the idea just stayed in the back of my mind. Now, if you take a step back and look at all of the modern consoles, what do you see? Xbox has a 733Mhz Intel processor, and a 8Gb hard drive. Wow! The Gamecube has a 400Mhz IBM Processor, and an ATI Graphics board. These gaming systems dont have proprietary systems anymore. They have computer parts. Gaming companies can save a lot of money by using computer parts, and get you a final product for less money. So, using computer parts is definitely the way to go. Now, look ahead. What is next for the convergence?
Here are my predictions. Gaming systems will have ports found on most computers, i.e. USB, Firewire, and come with wireless Internet. Also, will have more advance Operating Systems. All systems have basic Oss now, but do not have very strong power. In fact, there is not much convergence left, without making a console a computer in and out, by slapping a copy of Windows xp on there. The only thing that will change is speed. These things will get faster have more bells and whistles, until finally, the Gaming Consoles will become Computers in and out, and the work computers, will become gaming consoles. In fact, it will become one industry, until snap! The companies make it so you have to buy a console for games, and a computer for work. They will not be the same. Then it will go back to the beginning. Everything goes in circles.
WE will have to see, though. That will be years in the future. For now, I will just grab my copy of Grand Theft Auto, and Tony Hawks Underground, and play my heart out. By the time I get a PlayStation 3, I will have to start saving up for the next console.
