iPhone to have 8 Hour talk time

Apple announced in a press release today that the iPhone will have eight hours of talk time. On top of that, the front has been upgraded to glass to increase optical clarity and increase resistance to scratches. Finally, on the subject of battery life, we can listen to music for 24 hours, browse the Internet for 7 hours and expect a standby time of 24 hours.

For those of you that don't use smartphones this is huge! I have a Treo 750 and it has to charge at work. The level of emails, texts and phone calls would kill this battery in about 3 hours and it's a new phone. Previously, the iPhone was in line with every other smartphone offering either five hours of talk time, music or video playback. This meant you can talk for two hours, listen to music for an hour, browse the internet for 2 hours and then you'll have a dead battery.

The ability to talk for 5 hours and still have around 8 hours left over for music is amazing and I'm sure a lot of power users are rejoicing the news right now. I'm still not convinced that the iPhone is going to be scratch resistant but the glass face will certainly help matters. Let's just hope that the glass doesn't shatter when you drop the phone.
