iPhone: Yes another post...

I would really hate to give you any more nonsense about the upcoming �Jesus Phone� but why not? Everyone else is doing it, right? What else is there to report? We know when the iPhone is shipping and have seen Apple�s 20 minute in depth how-to for the upcoming iPhone has answered a lot of questions and revealed some unannounced features. I�m extremely satisfied with what this phone has to offer and I really don�t care about the phone only having EDGE. It doesn�t compare to 3G (EVDO on my Verizon Treo), which may suck since I�m used to fast speeds. Supposedly, AT&T; has spent millions revamping their network in preparation for the iPhone and supposedly has tweaked the speeds a bit to make web browsing and email a bit faster.

I was really amazed that even common people know about this device. The iPhone is making headlines in local papers and when I was browsing the AT&T; store to ask some follow-up questions with my account rep regarding the device I observed that every customer was discussing iPhone. No one was buying phones or accessories or paying bills and all I could hear was whispers of iPhone. An interesting conversation between an associate and what appeared to be a friend; went something like this:

*Associate is �1� and the friend / customer is �2�*
1. Yea, I haven�t had a phone release that�s had this much hype!
2. Well who�s making the iPhone? Is it like a RAZR?
1. No from Apple, ya know, the iPod people. But honestly, it�s been hard cause we don�t know crap. We�re supposed to sell millions of these, we�ve rebranded our stores, expanded and even have corporate security and requests to hire more people and all we know about it is what is on commercials.
2. Well, how much does the thing cost? It would be cool to have an iPod phone.
1. (In a whisper) the thing is like 399 dollars or something and that�s with or without a contract! I don�t know how they�re going to sell so many of these. We have problems selling Blackberrys and those are like 99 bucks. I still don�t know why it�s so important and everyone is in here asking about it. I say this much, it better balance my checkbook for file and me my income tax for 400 bucks.
2. Well that�s out of my price range I�m just happy with the RAZR.
1. Yep. The RAZR is great and it�s free now with a contract. Another thing is that the iPhone has a huge screen that will probably break if you drop it one time. I don�t know any company that�s gonna insure it. Whatever, it�ll help my sales for this month.

I�m back. So that was the conversation and after I recommend that the associate be fired from her job, I then want to say that every associate at AT&T; should watch the iPhone bit of Apple�s MWSF Keynote and then the 20 minute video on Apple.com and finally they should read the 30 page iPhone manual that is available to associates if they plan on actually helping customers that have only heard about it from the news. Those of us that are reading this blog know damn well what the iPhone is and what it does but many people will come in the store to see what the fuss is about and will be directed to a display that has a single iPhone and that will be it. Direct your friends to an Apple Store when they get ready to make an iPhone purchase. This may be my opinion but AT&T; representatives will suck at selling this phone.

A reminder that we will be camped out for the iPhone launch at our local AT&T; store starting Thursday at 10PM EST for a 6PM EST launch on the following day. This is going to be really interesting and I can�t wait to bring you live coverage of the most exciting tech event ever! There has never been so much hype and anticipation for a single device and we�ll be covering it all. I�m also working on some more live reporting from an actual Apple Store up north from a couple that will be attending as well. I�ll let you all know and hopefully we can Ustream and live blog the whole iPhone process for the entire world to see! Stay tunes. We�re only five days away and I�m getting the jitters.
