Apple's latest Airport Update broke my Internet
August 29th: Apple released a firmware update for its Airport Extreme base station today. This update (located here) fixes and includes the following,
Whats New in this Version
The AirPort Base Station Update 2007-002 includes general fixes and compatibility updates for the following applications:
- AirPort Utility
- AirPort Disk Utility
- AirPort Base Station Agent
AirPort Utility v5.2.1 for Mac OS X 10.4.x or later software supports the AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n, AirPort Extreme Base Station and AirPort Express Base Station.
Either way, I applied the firmware to my 802.11n base station and suddenly my Internet was not working. I began standard testing like attempting to ping my router, gateway and then Comcast's DNS servers. Everything tested fine. I blew away my router settings and reconfigured everything. Then, began clearing my local DNS cache (ipconfig /flushdns) and that was not working. In an attempt to not revert back to the previous firmware, I reconfigured the Airport's DHCP settings and moved from a 10.10.x.x network to a 172.x.x.x network.
Finally, I got tired of playing around and reverted back to the old Firmware version. After the base station restarted, I was back in business. Very weird and I guess I'll be staying at this version for now.

Adam,
I too have the same Airport problem, with the new update! - today I visited the usual cafe I go to for a coffee and wifi, the coffee was great! - but I could not connect to their wifi.
Yes I did get their wifi network name, listed in the airport menu, and it connects to it, but I don't get any IP connection! no matter what I tried!
So after I was done with the coffee, I came back home, connected up to my wifi at home.. and hey presto.. I'm connected!
Strange.. problem!
So I'm now downloading the older airport update, and will install that, to see if I can connect once again to my favorite cafe wifi hotspot once more!
my wireless isnt working either, strange. im connected with a cat5 cable now. i dunno whats wrong, i have a Dlink G router tho not a airport
where are u getting the retro updates?
