Two Months with iPhone
I was 2nd in line to purchase the iPhone on the east coast on June 29th. My purchase was one of the first thousand devices sold and Im proud to be a part of this wave. The funny thing is that over two months later and I still cant go out with the phone and not get bothered about it. I love showing the iPhone to people and like an Apple retail employee, Ive developed a quick tour of features each time someone requests to see what it can do. Last night, it was 2AM and I was at a pub downtown. I was twittering and 2 girls and a guy immediately asked to hold my phone. I simply sat back down just knowing that they would be there for a while and me and Laura just observed their faces as they took it all in. I heard, Oh my god! Thats incredible! a few times and they immediately logged into MySpace, took photos of themselves, started playing Zoolander and some Jay-Z and then texted their friends with OMG Im using an iPhone!. I know this because I got a reply at 5AM from some number saying, who is this?

People that borrow my phone arent usually this crazy and full of energy but this does happen each day. Ive stopped wearing the iPhone on my hip and it always stays in my pocket for this reason. Ive had one person try to steal it and he forgot that it was in his hand as he left the diner and headed for the car. It has been dropped by people twice and on a side note Id like it if people would log out of their MySpace accounts before giving the phone back to me. If I was a bad person, I could have done serious damage to your image.
Its good to know that the iPhone is still wildly popular among all ages and genders. Personally, Im in love with the device. It goes with me everywhere and is just like having a notebook with me wherever I go. Ive resisted hacking the phone but it seems that everyone is doing it without any issues. The phone never locks up but that doesnt stop me from turning it off and back on once a week. I do notice speed increases by doing so for those of you that arent in a habit of power cycling your phones its good for the iPhone to do this. I had to restart my Windows powered Treo everyday so once a week is a welcome change.
I dont use weather, stocks or YouTube as much as youd think. YouTube searching is crap on AT&T;s EDGE network and if I have Wi-Fi available its usually at home or work and Ill happily view the video on my computer. I dont like SMS messages so thats not a big seller for me and honestly, I only have photos, videos and songs on my iPhone because thats what everyone love to checkout when they borrow the device. The most used features of my phone, camera, mail and the phone. The iPhones camera is fantastic and everyone is completely wowed. Apple did not show off this feature enough but if youre a moblogger and have Flickr its awesome! I take photos with the camera and immediately email them to Flickr. Unfortunately, the camera takes pictures at a high resolution but emailing from the phone shrinks them down to 640x480. I understand this makes emailing faster but Id love higher res photos over email.
In case you guys didnt know; I did crack my iPhones screen. Getting out of my car for work, the iPhone slipped out of my hand, fell to the ground and cracked. The phone worked beautifully despite the crack and a trip to the Apple store resulted in a repair at no charge. Apple even gave me a loaner phone and Im glad because it took 12 days to get the replacement in the mail. Ive dropped the device since then from an even higher elevation and no crack has occurred so Im pretty sure the phones quality is up to par. I do have cases available but the iPhone just isnt fun when its surrounded by a case. Swapping out for a new phone was completely freaking easy! Apple got it right. When I got the replacement phone, I put in the SIM, docked the iPhone and it asked if I wanted to restore from a backup. I clicked yes and everything (even recent calls) were automatically loaded. Great job Apple for making syncing and restoring a lot of fun.
The battery life is fantastic, simple security features are great and everyone, even drunk people, can pickup this device and go to work. Theyre immediately having the time of their life and stating that theyll be saving up for one of their own immediately. One other funny bit about the phone is that people ask if I know that Justine girl from TV that got the 300 page iPhone bill. I think its hilarious that Ive known Justine since 2002 and people are asking me if Ive seen her on TV. Sometimes Ill come out and say, yea I had lunch with her back in January at an Apple conference and have known her for years. Suddenly, the iPhone is stupid and their male testosterone takes over and its a Q&A; session about Justine. Its a good test in the human brain. Guys love their toys but a girl will quickly take the lead over even the coolest gadgets.
Either way, if you can afford an iPhone then just buy it. The phone is life changing and if youve never owned a smartphone it will make you feel smarter and if you currently own a BlackBerry, Treo or Windows Mobile device, the iPhone will make you wonder why smartphones arent very smart! One last thought, while writing this I had two people come up and grab my phone to play with the features. This device is really popular and Im proud to be an early adopter.
