DailyTechTalk Goes Back to School

Why has DTT been so slow? I've gotten a few of these emails and here's the short story. I currently have 50 products in our offices awaiting review and tons of editorial ideas that I've written out but just recently I made the commitment to my boss and myself to get my MCTS 2008 certification. I'm currently a Microsoft Certified Professional with an A+ certification from CompTIA.

I've decided to move forward, bought the books and vouchers and am moving toward a test a week until I reach my goals.

I'm taking the Microsoft 70-290 test this Saturday at noon. Then I'll be taking the 70-291. Both of these are Server 2003 tests. After that, it's the 70-271 which is managing Windows Vista Enterprise workstations. Then I'll need just one more test, either Network+ or Security+ to become and MCSA 2003.

After that, it's a simply 55 question Windows Server 2008 test that makes me an MCTS which means, "Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist" (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcts/default.mspx).

After that, there's just two more tests for server 2008 that take me up to the next level but those are a ways off. I've only recently installed Windows Server 2008 Enterprise on my home server and began tooling with it. I have a long way to go. 70-290, 70-291, 70-270, Network+ then Active Directory 2008 tests to finally get all of my certs up to date. That's about 5 weeks of hardcore studying. DTT is taking a break during that time but we've not left and these certs are going to open a lot of things for me and the content will only improve.

If you are only familiar with MCP, MCSA and MCSE there is a page that explains the new generation of certifications. MCTS is the one I'm working to attain.
