Perfect Example of Apple's Missteps in Enterprise
Today, Apple released an EFI Firmware update for its Intel powered Xserve machines. That's awesome. Here's their release notes: "This update fixes several issues to improve the stability of Xserve computers"
TUAW Says it the best: ...so if your Xserver has had stability issues, maybe this is just the update you've been praying for.
That's how home users are. Home users have "stability issues" and jump to an update when it's released. Enterprise users like the people running farms of Xserves don't have some random reboots through the month or perhaps the DNS service on SVR1 keeps randomly stopping every 2 hours. If they do have these issues, they work to resolve it and don't think that an update from Apple is all that can fix this problem.
Enterprise System Administrators require a little bit more from a hardware / software manufacturer. If Microsoft released a new "important" update for me and simply said, "it solves some stability issues" there's be no chance that I'd install it blindly. Apple needs to understand the difference in an iMac user at home and an Xserve administrator.
