Timex Ti700

From Terry Mele...

The Ti700 from Timex is essentially a clock radio for the iPod. It is very small and has a dock for the iPod on top. Included adapters are one for the iPod nano and two for the standard 5G full-sized iPods. The radio reception wasnt terrible, but wasnt excellent, either. However, a great feature would be to include an RDS feature on the radio so you could see which song is playing.

Sound wise, its bad. There is simply no bass response at all. And of course, this just isnt acceptable these days. You must have some bass to emphasize your music. On the Box, iHome mentions the Patented Reson8 Sound chamber, which delivers great sound and expanded bass. I found the snooze bar had an extra feature that dims the backlight on the clock so you dont have to sleep with it shining in your face. Also, that same dimmer button is conviently located on the remote control.

Speaking of remote controls, the Timexs remote control offers basic iPod functions and a power putton. Also, when the power goes out, the Ti700 remembers the time because of the AA-powered battery backup it temporarily runs off of. I liked Timexs big digits since I cant see a thing without my glasses on in the morning. Its about time somebody thought of placing large easy-to-read numbers on an iPod clock radio.

The Ti700 has an alarm which can be programmed to go off at a set time. On the back panel, there is a line in jack which allows for auxiliary input devices to be connected as well.

I like the Ti700, but someone needs to design a clock radio for the iPod that sounds good, too. I have heard amazing sound from other products. If only we could put that sound into a clock radio for the iPod, then we would have something.
