New Dells - Slow performance in Outlook

At our company, we've experienced some issues with all of the new Dells we've deployed. After installing Outlook, you create a new message and begin typing the body or subject and there's extreme slowness like a lag from typing out items. Here's the message from Kurt and the resolution. I haven't seen anything online about this except one thread on the spybot forums.

After checking all the Outlook settings, choosing plain text formatting, turning off autocorrect, disabling addins, etc the problem persisted.

Opened up task manager and noticed CPU usage spiking way up every 5 seconds or so. The processes causing this were OUTLOOK.exe and explorer.exe. I figured that was most likely causing the periodic delays

Did some Googling on Outlook process CPU spikes and found several posts about this being caused by OutlookAddinSetup. It is apparently and integrated part of Dell MediaDirect (comes installed on new Dells). From what I read it can cause problems with recurring calendar appointments as well. It can be uninstalled from the Add/Remove programs list.

Uninstalled it, no more problems.

Moral of the story:
Deductive logic and Google are your friends.

File this one away in case you come across this issue in the future.
