Macworld 2008: Im finally back from recovery
I can honestly say that this was the most difficult Macworld Expo ever for me. Im getting older and certainly cant survive the sleep deprivation and schedule like I was able to in previous years. It took me about 2 weeks to recover this time which is unacceptable to many blogs but thats why I run my own show here at DTT.
Macworld was a non-stop 7 day fest which involved 3 nights where I didnt sleep at all and every other night I averaged 4-7 hours of sleep. I stayed under our very tight budget and was able to broadcast nearly 95% of the time. Other times we failed to broadcast were due to cellular service limitations in Moscone South which we could not avoid. Our own Sam Downie recorded nearly 20 hours of audio and video footage that is currently in post-production and due out very soon. I captured over 1200 photos, 600 of which are on our Macworld 2008 photo group on Flickr.
I wont be announcing any official plans for Macworld 2009 but Im partnering with some of the hottest streaming video companies to deliver a more immersive Macworld experience with more cameras, more episodes and more coverage all live 24/7. Right now, written content is still king and podcasting is just breaking through but video is fun for us and for the viewers. Just a little insider info, all together, our video streams were viewed over 100,000 times across all mediums which I can only guess is around 65 - 80 thousand unique visitors. This is the first time anyone covered Macworld 24/7 and we plan on doing it again next year.
We have some exciting reviews coming up too. In total, we received and are receiving nearly 60 new and updated hardware / software for iPod, iPhone and Macintosh. Personally, Im not a big fan of doing product reviews if Im not an expert on that product. If theres someone out there that wants to assist us by splitting the workload with us just send me an email via our contact button. You must have previous experience reviewing items for a well established blog and provide us with the email address of your previous supervisor at the other blog so we can get a recommendation. We have nearly $3500 worth of review items and I cant simply send that to anyone that sends us an email.
DailyTechTalk met some really awesome people while at Macworld. If you watched the live stream daily, youd see proof. Im not going to list everyone but we met some personal heros of mine and that made the trip well worth it. I hope that youll join us next year for Macworld 2009. Im taking a bit of break from talking about Macworld until July - August timeframe. Watch DailyTechTalk and MacworldBound for our updates. Now back to the regularly scheduled tech articles.
