Hey Lets all switch over to Pownce! Screw Twitter!

Today, as I browsed the SMS texts coming into my iPhone from my friends on Twitter, a trend began and quickly swept the twittersphere. The trend was that nearly half of my friends were discussing a large scale migration! This migration was from Twitter to Pownce. First off, I thought Jaiku was the cool Twitter competitor but it seems that everyone just loves Pownce.

Whats so great about Pownce? I feel its too messy. There are some great features like the ability to post files and links and I also like the organization of getting replies to your posts but there is an underlying problem that gets to me and thats the lack of flexibility with Pownce. With Twitter, a user can post tweets from many places. I personally use all of these platforms on a daily basis; Web (twitter.com), SMS, AIM, PocketTweets (iPhone web app) and I use Twitterific from my Mac. Ive yet to find a Windows Vista client that is light and doesnt require Adobe Air to operate.

Pownces API and open platform just doesnt exist so youre stuck updating from web. Its nice to simply open up SMS on my iPhone and post a quick tweet or a thought while Im in AIM. Twitter is simply the most popular of any other site of its kind. It shows because I can post a thought and immediately have 25 replies but with other sites, its very sparse because only people that are signed into Pownce see my thought but with Twitter and with the flexibility of seeing tweets across many mediums, nearly all of your followers can see your thoughts any time they want as long as theres cell service or Wi-fi.

If Twitter is so awesome, why is everyone starting a switch to Pownce rally? This question is easily answered. The Twitter community is extremely fragile and can collapse on itself at any time. If you look at the top 25 most followed on TwitDir or Twitterholic, there are some pretty well known bloggers on that list. If all 25 of those people banded together, posted one tweet to their account saying that theyre going to give up Twitter I can guarantee you that thousands will follow them to Pownce or whatever micro-blogging platform they collectively choose.

Im going to take a stance that many people on forums adopted years ago and state that if you spend all day discussing what sucks about Twitter, the community, the features or the stability, I say that you need to simply state, Im leaving and do that. Dont use Twitter as your platform to bad mouth the service. Just leave Twitter and never come back. I dont have time to listen to people bitch about Twitters stability issues or missing features. If you excessively threaten to switch to Pownce only because Twitter is horrible then Ill just stop following you. I am certainly not a Twitter fanboy but do enjoy using the service and wont be leaving anytime soon. Head to Pownce and enjoy sending files back and forth and leave me out of it. Oh and by the way, you can find me at http://pownce.com/adamjackson and http://twitter.com/adamjackson :)

The only thing wrong with Twitter except the down times. I love twitter and I
ll only leave when it dies (which would be any moment if the top bloggers left).

Happiness is accompanied by sorrow, and it would turn sunny after rain as well. If rain remains after rain and sorrow remains after sorrow, please take those farewells easy, and turn to smilingly look for yourself who is never to appear.
