Contour Showcase for iPhone
The Showcase for iPhone from Contour Design is the best case for iPhone that Ive used so far. I usually save that statement for the last section of my reviews but Im being totally honest. Our longtime readers might think that Contour slips me some cash with each review sample but I just love their cases. They dont have dozens of case styles that are all subpar. Each case is well made, with exceptional design out and does a fantastic job of covering my Apple device.

My last review was their iSee for iPhone which I liked but found it was bulky and the clear plastic may have displayed the iPhones beautiful design but it added too much to the phones weight and size. The Showcase is a step up and I love a lot about this case. The front has openings for the microphone, home button and screen. The back of the case only contains an opening for the camera. The top and bottom are exposed at just the right cut to allow easy access to the on / off switch and the microphone and speaker are well exposed on the bottom.
The side of the case is a hardened black plastic that is not painted and wont lose color from exposure to the sun and the usual elements. There is a side of the case open for volume controls. Overall, the Showcase covers every aspect of the iPhone that is likely to be damaged from a fall and the openings are all raised and not flush with the iPhone. Most drops will leave the iPhone unharmed. Even after my recent problem where I dropped the iPhone on the ground, resulting in a cracked screen, I put this case to the test and each time the phone survived well. I wouldnt recommend putting this to the your own trials but its good to know that I did the hard work for you and the case performed well.
The case holds the iPhone in very tight and secure because the back of the case flips down exposing the aluminum of the iPhone and doesnt come completely off. You slip the iPhone up and out. This has caused some surface scratches on the bottom metal edges of the phone which is also what the iSee did in our tests. Due to the amount of openings on the case (volume, dock, headphones, power and others) Contour couldnt make a case where you take the back completely off because it just wouldnt be secure. I love the design but that minor scratching is something I just have to deal with.
A minor unfortunate aspect Ive had to deal with on each iPhone case is that the keyboard runs to the edge of the phone. This means that any case that protects the edges will get in the way of your typing. My typing speed greatly decreases when using any iPhone case. This is not the manufacturers fault. They have to design a case that wraps around the front for many reasons and the keyboard is right there and thats something that well just have to deal with.
My favorite aspect of the case is the belt holster. It allows you to face the iPhone forward, back, up, down and facing toward you or screen out toward the world. Its fantastic! The holes in the holster allow access to the volume controls no matter what angle you put the face. I love sideways, pointing forwards with the screen facing me. Find your favorite angle and with the locking swivel, you can put the phone at any angle you choose. I despise those free swivel cases that move all over and I know that Im not alone. My other two phones have the locking clips as well because thats the most popular style clip.
Contour Design did it again. Their iPod cases have won editors choice from all of our reviewers beginning in 2004 with their Contour Showcase for 3rd generation iPods. Ive been using this case for 2 weeks recommend it to all users that wear the iPhone on their belt or hooked to a messenger bag. I dont feel this is a good case for ladies that carry the unit in their purse. There are other recommendations for that. This is made for belts and does a fantastic job filling me needs. http://contourdesign.com for more info!

N96 now is on sale.
When I got my iPhone from the NYC Fifth Ave. store on the release day, the only nice case they had was Contour's iSee. My iPhone looked great in it, but it made the iPhone seem twice the size. People started telling me that the iPhone was bigger than they thought. I had to explain to and show them that it was really the case that made it big. It was also hard to get the iPhone in and out of the case, which made it hard to clean. The phone didn't fit snugly into it either.
